Hosting and joining

A run is hosted or joined. Several can be standing at once, each its own Fenwick, and no account is required for any of it.

Muster

“Assemble by designated code. Late arrivals will be admitted; the wire will not wait.”

Hosting a run gives you a join code of the form COLD-DELMAR-20 and an invite link of the form /play?join=COLD-DELMAR-20. Anyone with either lands in your Fenwick. There is no signup, no email and no account — a session is just "this browser".

Any number of runs can be standing at the same time. Each is a completely separate world with its own clock, its own district and its own seven nights.

What only the host can do

The host does not get to move the clock. Nobody does, once a run is live.

Roll a character before you wander off after hosting. Night one cannot fall while there is nothing in the district to attack, so a run with a host who hasn't spawned sits on day one indefinitely.
In game The world bar. The code you send round, who is in here, and the rules the host set.
In game Joining with a code. A hosted run hands out a code like COLD-DELMAR-20. Anyone with it lands in the same Fenwick.

Joining late

You can join a run in progress. You arrive where survivors arrive, with the nights already counted, and your seat counts from the moment you are standing — arriving late cannot hurt the score, only help it.

When to host

A run is 7 nights over 7 real days, and night falls at 20:00 on the server's clock. The run starts the moment you host it, so the hour you host at is how much preparation day everybody gets.

Host at nine in the morning and the group has eleven hours to find buildings, board them and walk the civilians home. Host at half past seven in the evening and there is no preparation day at all — night one falls half an hour later, on people who are still standing in the street.

Pick a morning, and tell people which morning. Seven nights is seven evenings of everyone's week, and the group that agrees when it starts is the group still playing on night five.
In short
  • Host a run, get a code like COLD-DELMAR-20, send it round.
  • An invite link is /play?join=CODE and drops people straight in.
  • Only the host picks the pact, starts the run and sets friendly fire.
  • Host in the morning. Hosting after 20:00 means night one starts now.
